Fresh Turkey: Food Safety Update

Foster Farms is committed to food safety and believes consumers have a right to expect safe and wholesome food. Like all fresh poultry, Foster Farms fresh turkey products are completely safe to consume when properly handled and cooked to a temperature of 165 degrees.

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) recently identified a series of illnesses tracing to a specific type of Salmonella – Salmonella Reading. The illnesses are associated with fresh turkey products including the handling of pet food containing turkey. Foster Farms regularly tests for the presence of Salmonella and has not found an incidence of Salmonella Reading since 2015. Foster Farms sells its fresh turkey products primarily on the West Coast. The vast majority of illnesses have occurred outside of the West Coast.

The Centers For Disease Control has not advised consumers to avoid consuming turkey products. The CDC and the National Turkey Federation (NTF) remind consumers of the importance of safe handling and cooking of raw turkey.
