Our Story

Foster Farms has been part of everyday meals, celebrations, and traditions for generations. What began as a small family farm in California's Central Valley has grown into a trusted food brand enjoyed across the country.

Behind every Foster Farms product are dedicated people who take pride in creating food consumers know, enjoy, and trust. It's a commitment that has guided us for more than 85 years and continues to shape who we are today.

1939

Max and Verda Foster borrowed $1,000 against a life insurance policy and purchased a small piece of land in California’s Central Valley, beginning what would become Foster Farms.

1940-1949

Working side by side, to help with some extra cash, Verda soon began raising turkey poults, awakening each night to gently rotate the incubating eggs. The Fosters raised poultry while building their family business.

1950-1959

Max and Verda were successful at raising turkeys and soon added chickens. By the late 1950s, they had built a modern hatchery and acquired a small processing plant.

1959

Foster Farms opened its first processing facility in Livingston, California, strengthening its connection to the community it still calls home today.

1960-1990

What began as a small family farm continued to grow, with Foster Farms serving more communities throughout California and across the nation.

1993

The Foster Imposters made their debut, entertaining audiences, reinforcing what makes Foster Farms different: trusted quality that can't be imitated.

Today

More than 85 years later, Foster Farms remains rooted in California and focused on bringing great food to the table. From everyday meals to special moments, we're proud to be part of kitchens and communities.
